Employee training and development encompasses any activity that aids employees in gaining new knowledge or skills or improving existing ones. Training is a formally structured process by which talent development professionals assist individuals in improving their work performance. The acquisition of knowledge, skill, or attitude that prepares people for new paths or responsibilities is referred to as development. Employee development can take many forms, including training, coaching, mentorship, informal learning, self-directed learning, and experiential learn raining is a wonderful way to widen the knowledge bases of all staff, but it can be too expensive for many firms. Employees are unable to work due to training sessions, which can cause project completion to be pushed back. Regardless of the challenges, training and development benefits both the company as a whole and individual employee, making it both cost-effective and time-saving (Frost, Shelley, 2019).

Meaning & Definition

Employee training and development refers to educational activities within a corporation designed to improve employees' knowledge and abilities while also offering information and instruction on how to do specific tasks more effectively. Training is a short-term reactive procedure for employees and processes, but development is a long-term proactive approach for leaders. Employees' goals in training and development are to gain additional abilities and a total personality. Management takes the initiative in training with the goal of satisfying the current need for fan employees.

Example of Training and Development

For example, tax rules change frequently, necessitating annual professional training on new tax regulations for accountants. As laws change, lawyers must update their skills. To stay up to date on new fitness and nutrition facts, a personal fitness trainer will undergo yearly certifications. Technical training may be utilized in a consulting business to ensure that the consultant understands how to use the system to enter the number of hours that should be invoiced to a client. The waitress in a restaurant must be taught how to utilize the system to handle orders.

Stages of the Training Process

Effective training begins long before a trainer provides a single training session and continues long after that session has ended. Training can be defined as a series of five stages or activities: assessment, development, design, delivery, and evaluation.
